Hybrid DIY Vent System

The Hybrid DIY floor vent system is our easiest vent solution when wanting to use your own flooring material. Made for solid 3/4” hardwood flooring and engineered flooring, this template and support plate require minimal skill and a table saw.

Using a table saw, installers create the vent slats from the flooring material, remove 3/16" from the underside to accommodate the steel backing plate, then secure the slats directly to the support plate for added strength and stability. The result is a custom floor register that blends perfectly with the surrounding floor while offering enhanced structural support and long-term durability.

Ideal for flooring installers, contractors, and DIY builders, the Hybrid system provides a faster, more approachable way to build professional-quality wood floor vents without sacrificing appearance or performance.

Step By Step:

  • Using our two hole template or a track saw, cut the floor around the duct to the size of the vent. Cut all the way down to the subfloor.

  • Using a table saw and your flooring material, cut the slats to the length of the vent support plate and the width of the slats on the vent support plate (this will vary depending on your vent size).

  • Take the newly cut flooring slats and set your table saw to cut 3/16" off of the bottom of the material so the height of your material plus the support plate will match the exact height of your floor.

  • Using adhesive, adhere the slats you made from the flooring material to the support plate. The support plate is to be on the bottom, and the finished surface of the slats should be facing up.

  • Once the adhesive is dried, drop your DIY Vent into the vent hole you created in Step 1.
